The Ferris Mountains, situated in a remote region about 45 miles north of Rawlins, hold pristine wilderness that should be explored only by experienced trekkers who can navigate with map and compass.
The mountains are heavily forested and reach elevations of more than 10,000 feet. They are home to deep canyons, crystalline streams, wildflowers and bighorn sheep, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions and elk.
The Madison Formation, a gigantic granite outcrop on the south side, offers a beautiful vista.
