The primary wildlife protected at this remote refuge, 37 miles northwest of the town of Green River, are migratory birds. Moose, mule deer and pronghorn are commonly seen.
Visitors to the refuge may observe wildlife, hunt, fish for trout (rainbow, cutthroat and brown), enjoy an auto tour route, and visit historical interpretive sites.
Canoes and rafts are recommended to travel the Green River. Hunting is available on and around the refuge.
Because of the refuge's remoteness, visitors are encouraged to travel with plenty of water, food and fuel.
