Wyalusing, one of the nation's first state parks, is distinguished by the breathtaking views of the Mississippi River from its 500-foot bluffs.
This 2,674-acre park in southwestern Wisconsin includes 5.5 miles of lofty bluffs and lush woodlands along the river. A marked canoe trail runs through the Mississippi sloughs.
Birdwatching is excellent at the park, which is on the Mississippi Flyway. The high ridges allow birdwatchers to actually look down on soaring hawks and bald eagles.
Twenty miles of hiking trails wind through the fertile river valley, which is home to many unusual plants, including the amethyst shooting star, Goldie's fern and dragon sagewort.
In winter, seven miles of groomed trails are available for cross-country skiing, and ice fishing is popular on the river.
Two campgrounds offer 109 campsites, some of which stay open during the winter.
