Campers at Hartman Creek State Park continue a tradition begun thousands of years ago. Native Americans also stayed at this 1,500-acre site, leaving campsites and trails embedded in the landscape.
Seven spring-fed lakes grace this park, providing excellent fishing, swimming and canoeing. Hikers have access to 10 miles of trails through the park's lush woodlands, including a section of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Bicyclists enjoy more than six miles of designated trails.
There are 101 campsites, including 79 available by reservation. There is limited camping available from Dec. 1 to March 15. The park maintains 12 miles of groomed cross-country trails, four miles of snowmobile trails and six miles of horse trails.
Hardcore fishermen usually head to Whispering Pines, a remote part of the park, to find bluegills, bass and northern pike.
