The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge encompasses more than 200,400 acres of wooded islands, lakes, rivers and marsh.
The refuge winds through more than 260 miles of the Mississippi River in four states. This La Crosse District covers 42,000 acres between Trempealeau and Genoa, Wisconsin.
Spring and fall migrations are spectacular as millions of songbirds, tundra swans, waterfowl, and other birds stop here to rest and feed.
There are many opportunities to hunt, fish, camp, watch wildlife, or enjoy a scenic drive along the river bluffs.
