Wildcat Mountain State Park offers visitors 3,700 acres of outstanding scenery with steep hills and deep narrow valleys.
While beautiful year-round, Wildcat Mountain is especially popular in autumn when the hills are ablaze with color.
Canoeing the Kickapoo River is a popular park attraction. The Kickapoo offers 125 miles of slow-moving water with no rapids. There are a number of canoe liveries along the river providing shuttle service to those who don’t pack their own canoes.
Wildcat Mountain is one of two Wisconsin state parks where riders can camp with their horses. There is a separate horse campground with a corral, and two connecting loops make up the highly scenic 12-mile Wildcat Mountain Horse Trail. The park does not rent horses. Horse trails are open May 1 through November 15 each year.
The park offers picnicking, hiking and camping. There are three picnic areas and three hiking trails covering four miles. In addition to the horse camp, there are 30 family campsites, including one wheelchair-accessible site.
Astronomers find Wildcat Mountain to be an exceptional place to observe the night sky, and nature programs touch on astronomy as well as the region’s wildlife, plants, history and geology.
The park is open year-round. Deer and turnkey hunting is allowed in selected areas of the park by permit only.
Cross-country skiers relish the 7.5 miles of groomed and marked trails.
