Covering Rawley Point along Lake Michigan's shoreline, Point Beach State Forest offers visitors five miles of sandy shoreline and cooling breezes.
Sunbathing, windsurfing, mountain biking, hiking and fishing are popular here. Beyond the usual beach treasures, you may find fossils of ancient sea animals and pieces of old shipwrecks.
Point Beach offers 127 family campsites, 66 with electricity. Group camping facilities are also available, as are wheelchair-accessible camping and picnic facilities.
There are 12 miles of bike trails.
Visitors can spot red and gray fox, raccoon, coyote, shorebirds and numerous waterfowl. Birding is especially good during spring and autumn migrations.
An interpretive nature center has exhibits on local geology, native plants and animals. A naturalist leads nature walks in summer and there is a half-mile self-guided nature trail. There are 11 miles of hiking trails.
In winter, there are 11 miles of groomed and marked cross-country ski trails and three miles of snowmobile trails. Four campsites with electrical hookups are maintained for winter use.
Small game, waterfowl and deer hunting are allowed in season.
