Located only a few miles from Wisconsin Dells, Mirror Lake State Park is a favorite recreation spot.
A sheltering landscape makes Mirror Lake excellent for canoeing. Sandstone bluffs form a waterway that opens on a broad, flat shallow area where Dell Creek enters the lake.
This is a favorite place for migrating waterfowl and a variety of ducks, grebes, coots and great blue herons are seen in spring.
Three campgrounds, open year-round, offer 144 family campsites, including 30 with electricity. Reservations are accepted from May through Nov. 1.
Overflow campers often use Rocky Arbor State Park, eight miles away, and come to Mirror Lake in the day.
The park has a 200-foot sand beach and a boat landing. A boardwalk at the boat landing is favorite spot for shore fishing, but small boats and canoes are needed to find the lake’s best spots.
Hikers enjoy 20 miles of hiking and walking trails, including 1.2 miles of self-guided nature trails. There are diverse populations of ferns, some reaching six feet in height, along with pink and yellow lady's slippers, 100-foot white pines and eastern hemlock.
The park’s trails offer some of the best places to see white-tailed deer and huge pileated woodpeckers. Mink, turkeys and red-winged blackbirds are also seen.
Autumn colors are especially beautiful here. Nature programs and guided hikes are all available. The park has wheelchair-accessible campsites, trails, buildings and fishing pier.
In fall and winter, the park offers limited deer hunting, ice fishing and 19 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails.
