Beech Fork State Park, a year-round recreation spot, covers 3,411 acres along the northern shores of Beech Fork Lake.
In summer, the lake covers 760 acres and extends for six miles along Beech Fork. There is a 10 hp limit on all boat motors.
This park, located 8.5 miles southeast of Huntington, also has 275 RV and tent campsites with electrical hookups, a public boat launch and boat rentals, and great hiking. One campground has full hookups and is open year-round.
The most strenuous trail is the five-mile Lost Trail, which shows hikers a wide variety of hardwoods, songbirds and other flora and fauna.
The Overlook trail offers more moderate effort and the three-quarter-mile Nature Trail is an easy hike
Hunting is allowed on an adjacent wildlife management area.
New to Beech Fork State Park are a a pool and six deluxe vacation cottages overlooking Beech Fork Lake.
These luxurious cottages are open year-round and feature all the modern amenities such as heat and air conditioning, fireplaces, kitchens, telephones and grills. Cottages may be rented by the week (mid-June through Labor Day) or for two-night stays during weekends and holidays.
Group camping is available during the off-season.
Pets are prohibited in cottages and cottage areas.
