One of Virginia's prettiest state parks, Douthat's mountain scenery has been enjoyed by campers, hikers and fishermen for more than 60 years.
Fifty-acre Douthat Lake is stocked with trout and is popular with fishermen, boaters and swimmers alike. Boat rentals are available seasonally.
The park is a major hiking and mountain biking destination, with more than 25 trails of varying difficulty, spanning 43 miles of wooded scenery. Overlooks at Lookout Rock and along the Tuscarora Overlook Trail offer splendid vistas of the Alleghany Highlands before dipping into shady waterfall glens.
Three campgrounds offer 78 sites, four of which are group sites. The campground is open March 1 through the first Monday in December.
A fee is charged for parking.
