Little River State Park is located on a small promontory in the Waterbury Reservoir. Stevenson Brook bisects the park.
Hikers can head up into Ricker Basin where 50 families farmed the rocky land during the 1800s. The settlement was eventually abandoned by the younger generations. Today, old cemeteries, a sawmill, roads, bridges and many cellar holes trace the outlines of the old community.
There's great fishing in Stevenson Brook and Little River, where rainbow and brown trout flourish. Anglers also go after smallmouth bass in the reservoir.
The park's campground is one of Vermont's largest, with 81 tent-trailer sites and 20 lean-tos. Facilities include restrooms, hot showers for a small fee and a sanitary dump station, but no hookups. Wheelchair-accessible campsites are available.
Mountain biking is permitted only on gravel roads in the park.
