Grand Isle State Park sits on the largest island in Lake Champlain. Grand Isle, 14 miles long and three miles wide, is also known as South Hero. The Hero Islands were named to commemorate early Vermonters who served in the American Revolution.
There are 117 tent and trailer sites several are wheelchair-accessible, 36 lean-tos and four cabins. Rest rooms have running water and hot showers. There is a trailer sanitary station but no hookups.
Visitors can swim and fish from the lakeshore. There is a boat launch ramp and rowboats may be rented.
An activity center at the park organizes interpretive programs, games and entertainment during summer.
Other park facilities include a sand volleyball court, horseshoes, playground, fitness trail and a nature walk.
Campers are allowed free entry to the sand beach at nearby Knight Point State Park.
