Imagine panning gold in Vermont! Buffalo Brook, which runs through the park, is where gold was discovered in 1855. Mining continued for 30 years and traces are still found today.
Camp Plymouth State Park, in the town of Plymouth, skirts the east shore of Echo Lake. This 295-acre park offers hiking, fishing, picnicking, boating and gold panning, but is largely forestry oriented.
There is group camping on the south side of Buffalo Brook with six lean-tos, tent sites, pit toilets and a large field for activities.
On the north side is a large picnic area, play area, sandy beach, horseshoe pits, concession, boat rentals, and four rental cottages.
There is a large enclosed picnic shelter including a kitchen for larger groups as well as two smaller open pavilion-style picnic shelters that are available for rental.
The park is officially closed in winter, but snow sports are permitted.
