The 11,987-acre Ouray National Wildlife Refuge, located along 12 miles of the Green River, provides much-needed water for plants, animals and waterfowl in the dry desert of northeastern Utah.
The refuge is home for thousands of migratory birds as well as endangered species such as whooping cranes, peregrine falcons, ospreys, bald eagles, Colorado pikeminnow and humpback chub.
Fishing and hunting are popular at the refuge.
Rafting is permitted on the Green River, and there is a primitive boat launch there.
Mountain biking and horseback riding are permitted along the tour route and the service roads.
