The Dixie National Forest stretches for about 170 miles across southern Utah, occupying almost 2 million acres and straddling the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River.
The forest's outstanding scenic features include the red sandstone formations of Dixie's Red Canyon, which rival those of nearby Bryce Canyon National Park. Hells Backbone Bridge and the view into Death Hollow are famous. From the top of Powell Point, visitors can view three states.
Boulder Mountain, one of the largest high-elevation plateaus in the United States, is dotted with hundreds of small lakes that offer outstanding fishing and scenery.
The wilderness areas of Pine Valley, Ashdown Gorge and Box-Death Hollow are favorites for hikers and backpackers.
The forest has wheelchair-accessible campsites available at some developed campgrounds, and there are some accessible trails.
