This 3,687-acre park was originally created in the 1930s by the Tennessee Valley Authority and other federal agencies.
The park surrounds 49-acre Big Ridge Lake and adjoins Poor Land Valley Creek, both of which flow into sprawling Norris Lake. Private boats are not permitted on Big Ridge Lake, but the park rents out canoes, paddleboats and Jon boats.
Anglers catch bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill.
Fifteen miles of foot trails, with such eerie names as Dark Hollow Trail and the Ghost House Trail, meander through the park. There are three primitive sites for backcountry campers.
The 50 developed campsites have electrical and water hookups. There is also a trailer dump station and bath houses.
More upscale lodgings include 19 rental cabins, available April through October, and a group camp that accommodates up to 120 people.
There are several wheelchair-accessible campsites.
