Located in the nation's largest remaining forest of "red cedar" (actually a variety of juniper), Cedars of Lebanon State Park combines an 831-acre recreational area with an additional 8,056 acres of wild land and forest.
The park's distinctive limestone glades support abundant wildlife and an array of rare wildflowers, including glade violet, glade phlox and glade lobelia. "Wildflower Pilgrimages" in April are among the park's many programs.
Eight miles of hiking trails meander through the "cedars" and pass a variety of geological curiosities. The Merritt Nature Center offers a brochure for its self-guided nature trail.
Equestrians find 12 miles of trails, horses available for rental and a stable where stalls may be reserved for overnight visits. Information can be obtained by calling 615-444-5465.
All of the park's 117 campsites have electrical and water hookups. Camping is year-round. Campers also find modern bathhouses, a seasonal camp store and souvenir shop, and a trailer dump station.
There are also nine modern cabins, a popular group lodge and an assembly hall.
