Reelfoot Lake was created by a series of severe earthquakes during the winter of 1811-12. Large areas submerged, and one of these sinkholes filled with water.
Reelfoot Park is located in two counties. Its 280 acres are broken into 10 segments along 22 miles of the Reelfoot Lake shoreline.
One of the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty of the lake is to embark on a three-hour naturalist-guided pontoon boat tour of this 25,000-acre wonder.
The Cypress Boardwalk nature trail takes visitors over the lake to view the snakes and blue herons that inhabit the swampy areas.
Reelfoot Lake State Park has three hiking trails and an auto tour that circles the lake.
The Airpark Trail is a 45-minute walk through old cypress forest and second growth vegetation. The Keystone Trail winds along the shoreline of Reelfoot Lake for 1.5 miles and is the only lakeshore trail. The Black Bayou Trail goes along the old bayou for approximately two miles and is an excellent bird watching and wildlife observation walk.
The Auto Tour visits 12 points of interest and circles Reelfoot Lake.
Two campsites has 100 campsites.
Located in the northwest corner of Tennessee, the park is one of the greatest hunting and fishing preserves in the nation.
