Pickett State Park delivers a striking combination of scenic, geological and botanical beauty.
Uncommon rock formations, natural brides, caves and Native American artifacts are among the highlights of this Cumberland Plateau.
Next to the park is the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area with more than 100,000 acres of prime wilderness.
Ten relatively short hiking trails are open year-round, with camping permitted on some trails. A swinging bridge spans the lake connecting the picnic area with the lake trail.
The park has six stalls for boarding horses. Pack animals are not allowed in the park, but they are permitted in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.
The cliff-lined swimming beach is sandy and picturesque. Arch Lake, where year-round fishing is available, is named for a large natural sandstone arch under which visitors can paddle. Rowboats and canoes can be rented. Personal boats are not allowed.
Cottage campers can choose between Civilian Conservation Corps-constructed rustic stone cottages, wooden deluxe cabins or year-round chalets or villas. All are fully equipped for housekeeping.
Forty modern campsites are also available.
