Named for Tennessee’s most famous pioneer, David Crockett State Park offers a variety of recreational activities.
Crockett was a pioneer, soldier, politician and industrialist. It was on the banks of Shoal Creek, now part of this park, that he built a powder mill, a grist mill and a distillery.
After a flood destroyed the buildings in 1821, he moved to west Tennessee and was elected to Congress where he fought for his people’s right to keep the land they had settled. In 1836, he died in the battle of the Alamo.
Bass fishing is popular on Lake Lindsey. Pickniking and hiking are favorite activities.
A paved bike trail, hiking trails, tennis, picnic tables, an olympic-size swimming pool, and other recreational activities are available.
In summer, park staff offer various planned activities and programs for all ages. Black powder demonstrations take place at the interpretive center, and there are exhibits describing David Crockett’s life and times.
On the second weekend of August historical intepreters and re-enactors make history come alive during the David Crockett Days Celebration and pre-1840 Rendezvous.
More than 100 modern campsites are also available. Campers need to register at the office.
