Perched on a peninsula, this state park offers spectacular views of 1,350-acre Lake Herman, where anglers come to catch walleye, perch and crappies from boat and from shore.
The park is also known for its beautiful three-mile scenic drive.
The park has two trails for hikers, mountain bikers and cross-country skiers. One trail is 1.25 miles and the other is 1.1 miles. Outside the park, there are 40 miles of trails for hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers.
Bird watchers enjoy glimpsing more than 200 species.
The campground continues a tradition started by Native Americans who once camped here en route to nearby pipestone quarries.
A log cabin in the park was built for Herman Luce and his son, William, the area's first white settlers, in 1871.
There are 72 campsites.
