Mina Lake, also called Lake Parmely, was formed by the damming of Snake Creek in 1934. It was originally called Shake Maza, a Sioux term for "shaped like a horseshoe," but the name never caught on.
Officially renamed Parmely, it is more commonly called Mina after the daughter of the president of the Milwaukee Railroad.
The 300-acre recreation area borders Mina on three sides, and swimmers can enjoy the sandy beach.
The lake is known for good crappie fishing, but there are walleye, northern pike, perch, bass and bullhead too. Sailing and powerboating are also popular. The park has a two-lane boat-launching ramp.
Hikers may use a free guide to identify plants growing along an interpretive trail. The 36-unit campground has a boat dock and several beach areas.
