It took millions of years for Split Rock Creek to carve the beautiful formations of Sioux quartzite found in Palisades State Park.
Along with admiring the cliffs from three miles of multiple-use trails, visitors can canoe or camp at one of the 35 sites or five camping cabins.
The fishing is good, and heavy snowfalls permit snowshoeing.
A picnic shelter, one RV campsite, and one camping cabin are wheelchair-accessible.
