Covering 2.25 million acres in south central Oregon, Fremont-Winema National Forests are home to 200 lakes, dramatic cliffs, distinctive rock outcroppings, open meadows, secluded wilderness areas and mixed stands of aspen and pine.
Gearhart Mountain Wilderness is one of the most scenic areas in the eastern portion of the forests, and provides outstanding opportunities for backcountry trekking and solitude.

The western portion of the forests is known for beautiful lakes, including 200 lakes in Sky Lakes Wilderness. The Pacific Crest Trail, which follows the ridge of the Southern Cascades along the entire length of the wilderness, provides great sightseeing opportunities.
A pair of unusual volcanic cones, Goose Nest and Goose Egg, result from the geologic activities of neighboring Mount Mazama, the ancient volcano known today as Crater Lake.
Mount Thielsen and Mountain Lakes Wildernesses offer secluded, deep-blue lakes and snow-covered mountain peaks.
Pelican Butte, with its outstanding view of Upper Klamath Lake, Lake of the Woods, Fourmile Lake, Miller Lake, and the Sprague, Williamson, and Wood Rivers, are some of the popular features of the western portion of the forests.
