The Little River National Wildlife Refuge, which extends over 15,000 acres of bottomland hardwoods within the floodplain of Little River, preserves a habitat for migratory waterfowl, particularly mallards and wood ducks.
Recreational activities include wildlife observation, hiking, photography, hunting and fishing.
The refuge forest serves as one of the few nesting locations for secretive Swainson's warblers and is the only destination in the state for viewing nesting anhingas.
In addition, it is home to 12 state champion trees.
