Nestled in lush rolling hills, Osage Hills State Park offers a variety of activites in its deep forested canyon and 18-acre lake.
Named for the Osage people who settled here in 1796, the park offers great fishing, hiking, biking and swimming. Stone cabins and a variety of campsites are available.
The nearby town of Pawhuska is the tribal capital of the Osage and contains the Osage Tribal Museum, Library and Archives and the Osage County Historical Museum.
Pawhuska Native American Village is home to many members of the "Dwellers-in-the-Thorny-Thickets" division of the Osage tribe and hosts a September dance commemorating the removal of the Osage from Kansas, as well as several powwows and feasts.
Woolaroc Museum, located on the Frank Phillips Ranch, includes a 4,000-acre wildlife preserve and features a world-class musem, a Native American heritage center and a rustic lodge.
Starting in Pawhuska, you can drive a scenic loop through the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.
