Alabaster Caverns State Park is home to the largest gypsum cave in the world that also offers guided tours.

Massive boulders of pink, white and even rare black alabaster are visible. The sculpted gypsum formations are evidence of the roaring river that once raged through the cave.

There are five species of bats here as well. Roosting sites provide daytime shelter and a place for bats to hibernate during the winter months. Only the Mexican free-tailed bats migrate here from Mexico each spring to bear their young.

You may take guided tours or, with permission, explore five undeveloped caves from March to September. (There are fees for both of these activities.)

Tent and RV campsites are available in beautiful Cedar Canyon. Four short trails, interpretive programs, a visitor center and gift shop are also available.

Six miles north of the park, the Old West lives on in Freedom. This small town has preserved its Western heritage with main street buildings that resemble an early cow town.
