The Devils Lake Wetland Management District provides a home for waterfowl species found in the Prairie Pothole Region. During spring and fall, spectacular concentrations of birds flock to refuges within the district.
The district encompasses eight counties in northeastern North Dakota. Within the district are 209 Waterfowl Production Areas that protect more than 47,000 acres of wetlands and other wildlife habitat.
Waterfowl Production Areas offer many opportunities for year-round outdoor recreation and are noted for waterfowl hunting and birdwatching.
