Established in 1961 to protect the breeding grounds of migratory birds and wildlife, Arrowwood today preserves 27 waterfowl nesting areas totaling 6,138 acres in Foster and Eddy counties.
District headquarters are located at Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge, about five miles east of Edmunds.
The area habitat is mostly tame and native grassland and a complex of wetlands. The district offers many opportunities for wildlife observation.
Walk-in access is permitted year-round. Vehicles are prohibited.
All waterfowl areas are open to public fishing and hunting during limited periods.
Common wildlife species include a variety of waterfowl, upland game birds, songbirds, raptors and deer.
