Lake Zahl, located in northwestern North Dakota, contains 3,800 acres which is comprised largely of native prairie and two marshes.
The refuge is open annually to archery deer hunting, deer gun hunting and late season upland bird hunting for ring-necked pheasants, gray partridge and sharp-tailed grouse.
You must obtain a permit to hike or observe wildlife in the area. The refuge is not staffed and permits are issued by the Crosby wetland management district.
Access is from state Hwy. 50, where there is a kiosk with information on refuge activities, and from county and township roads on the refuge borders.
