Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1938 and is located on Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
It provides habitat for the greater snow goose and other migratory waterfowl.
The 5,915-acre refuge contains stretches of ocean beach, barrier dunes, salt marshes, fresh and brackish water as well as tidal creeks and bays.
Species that live on the refuge include snow geese, peregrine falcons, piping plovers, bald eagles, loggerhead sea turtles, tundra swans and many other animals.
