From New River State Park, paddlers canoe more than 26 miles of the South Fork of the New River, one of the oldest rivers in the world and designated as both a National Wild and Scenic River and an American Heritage River.
The park offers three access points from which visitors can fish, picnic and view spectacular mountain scenery.
The three access areas provide canoe campsites and walk-in campsites, all with tables and fire rings.
A wheelchair-accessible picnic shelter, hot showers, and restrooms are available at Wagoner Road Access. The park also offers a self-guided nature trail and a hiking trail.
The south and north forks of the river provide some of the best smallmouth and red-eye bass fishing in the region.
