Harriman State Park, with several recreation areas, is the second-largest state park in New York and has the largest variety of attractions.

More than 200 miles of hiking trails in the park include the Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail and a section of the Appalachian Trail.

The park has three major bodies of water: Lake Welch, Lake Sebago and Lake Tiorati. Each has its own picnic and beach facilities.

In addition to hiking, the park supports biking, swimming, fishing and boating.

Tent and trailer campsites are at Beaver Pond Campground at Lake Welch. Cabins are available for rent at Lake Sebago.

During winter, there is cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling on Lake Welch Drive and ice skating.

Botanists can examine the blatterwort, a plant found only in this park, according to state officials.

A permit is required for boating and horseback riding and a license is required to fish in the park.

Among other noteworthy features are glacial potholes and perched boulders.
