In the southwest corner of Catskill Park is the 14,800-acre Willowemoc-Long Pond Wild Forest. With an extensive trail network to several ponds, it's an ideal destination for hiking, camping, fishing, backpacking, mountain biking and winter sports.
The forest is nine miles northeast of Livingston Manor, the closest village with amenities. There are trailheads at Black Bear Road in Denning, Long Pond on Flugertown Road in Neversink, Mongaup Pond Campground in Rockland and Frick Pond in Rockland.
Two small parking lots along Johnson Hill Road in Rockland provide access to Waneta Lake.
The forest's 40 miles of recreational trails, mostly based on old logging roads, are used by hikers, cross-country skiers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Fifteen miles of trails are for hiking only.
Primitive camping is allowed at sites that are 150 feet from any trail, road or water source, and are marked with round yellow Department of Environmental Conservation markers. Camping is also permitted 150 feet from trail road or water bodies.
