Three separate recreation areas make up Navajo Lake State Park.
Pine River, the most developed area along the lake, features a visitor center with interpretive exhibits.
Sims Mesa is across the lake and is accessible from NM 527.
The San Juan River area below the dam is renowned for excellent trout fishing. It has wheelchair- accessible fishing facilities and several miles of hiking trails. The park's Cottonwood Campground sits on the shores of the river.
Next to Elephant Butte, Navajo Lake is New Mexico's largest lake, covering more than 15,000 acres. It offers many water sports and is home to both cold- and warm-water fish.
Explore some of the many side canyon areas. The varied terrain and vegetation attracts all kinds of creatures. Watch for sun-basking lizards in summer and soaring bald eagles in winter.
Evidence of some of the oldest Native American villages in the Southwest are found in the area.
