Washington Crossing State Park is largely of historic interest as the site where George Washington landed after crossing the Delaware River in 1776.
The visitor's center serves as a museum with more than 500 artifacts. The 18th-century Johnson Ferry House, where Washington is thought to stopped, is one of the period structures in the park.
But the naturalist also finds much to enjoy here. There is fishing and canoeing in the river and in the adjoining Delaware & Raritan Canal Park.
A Nature Interpretive Center is open year-round and offers programs to schools, scouts and the public.
The center contains live and preserved specimens, a variety of hands-on and interactive exhibits and a live observation bee hive.
An entry fee is charged during summer on weekends and holidays.
