Fort Robinson is Nebraska's largest state park and contains a fascinating array of American history.
Once an active military post established after the Civil War, it hosted Crazy Horse, General Crook and Doc Middleton.
The lands around the fort contain diverse recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping and horseback riding.
The park's 22,000 acres contain wild open grasslands and buttes. There are roads throughout, one of which passes through a bison herd pasture.
Visitors can stay in historic officers' quarters or camp at modern facilities or year-round primitive sites.
The White River offers excellent fishing and two ponds are stocked with trout.
