The Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge is a 30,700-acre area in the St. Francis River watershed. Oak savanna, prairie opening and wetland habitats provide refuge for a wide variety of native animals and migratory birds.
Wildlife on the refuge includes white-tailed deer, gray and fox squirrels, minks, bobcats, muskrats, river otters and striped skunks. Summer residents include bald eagles, Canada geese, common loons, sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, blue-winged teal and other ducks, and great blue herons. Among the late-summer visitors are white pelicans and common egrets.
Hunting and fishing are allowed on the refuge but are subject to state regulations. Contact the refuge office for other information.
