About 220 miles north of the Twin Cities, Gooseberry Falls is considered the gateway to the North Shore. Listen to the thunderous roar of the Upper and Lower Falls of the Gooseberry River as it plummets through a rocky gorge.
Hike or ski to see the Fifth Falls through a forest of evergreen, aspen and birch where a variety of birds, animals and plants live. Of special interest are white-tailed deer that winter in the park, herring gulls that establish nesting colonies along the lakeshore, the common loon, pileated woodpecker, black bear and timber wolf.
The park offers spectacular scenery for picnicking and camping. You can also fish for trout in Lake Superior or the Gooseberry River.
