Located in the heart of the Twin Cities at the confluence of the Minnesota and the Mississippi rivers, this park offers extensive and beautiful biking, hiking, and skiing trails linked to Minnehaha Park and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Here, you can canoe on Gun Club Lake, play golf, swim in Snelling Lake or hike on Pike Island where the rivers converge. The fishing pier is wheelchair accessible.
Stop by the very popular Interpretive Center for a glimpse of the riverine environment where you might spot white-tailed deer, fox, woodchucks, badgers, skunks or even a fox snake (almost identical in appearance to a rattle snake, but not poisonous).
Snapping, soft-shelled and painted turtles can be seen basking in the sun.
You can also hike up to historic Fort Snelling for a view of military life in the 1820s.
This is a day use only park, no camping is available.
