Father Hennepin State Park is located in east central Minesota on Mille Lacs Lake, the second largest lake completely within Minnesota's borders.
The lake is a major draw, with a beach, two boat launches and a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier. Anglers fish for walleye, northerns, bluegills, crappie, bass and muskie. Birdlife include ospreys, loons, eagles, terns, cormorants and mergansers.
Two small rocky islands northwest of the park form a natural wildlife refuge for nesting birds. More than 300 species of birds have been seen in the park.
There are four miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails, some of which is wheelchair accessible. Bicyclists use park roadways.
