The Seney National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for birds of prey, common loons, trumpeter swans, wading birds, shorebirds, wetland mammals such as beavers and muskrats, white-tailed deer, painted and snapper turtles.
A popular tourist destination on the Upper Peninsula, the refuge offers many recreational activities, including hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing, hunting and fishing, an auto tour route and special events. The visitor center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from May 15 through Oct. 15 and the refuge itself is open all year.
Seney's 95,455 acres include 25,150 acres in wilderness status. Seney oversees five satellite areas: Kirtland's Warbler, Huron, Whitefish Point and Harbor Island National Wildlife refuges and part of the Michigan Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
