Gunpowder Falls State Park follows the river valleys of the Big Gunpowder Falls and the Little Gunpowder Falls, to the point where they converge and become the Gunpowder River. The different areas embraced by this park total about 18,000 acres distinguished by their natural beauty and day-use recreational opportunities.
There are four excellent trout streams.
The park features the Hereford Area, along the York Road in Parkton; the Northern Central Railroad Trail, part of more than 100 miles of trails in the park; the Sweet Air Area, reached via Route 152 and Green Road; the historic Jerusalem Village in Kingsville; and the Hammerman Area, which offers swimming in the Gunpowder River near where it enters the Chesapeake Bay. There are boat rentals, slip rentals and boat launching facilities.
There is camping for youth groups only.
