South Mountain State Park is a natural corridor that surrounds the Appalachian Trail as it cuts its 40-mile course across Maryland, from Weverton to Pen Mar. The park's 8,039 acres follow the ridgeline of South Mountain. The park offers splendid hiking, camping for trail hikers, and fine scenic vistas. Hunting is permitted in two areas.
