Named for a bygone country estate, Herrington Manor is a popular getaway both for day use and extended visits. There are 20 rental cabins - 10 were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps - open year-round and well-separated for privacy, but no campsites.
Herrington Lake is open to canoes and rowboats. Fishing is good for bass, trout and catfish.
Cyclists and hikers share the 10 miles of easy-to-intermediate trails. Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. A 5.5-mile trail connects to Swallow Falls State Park.
Birdwatchers also frequent the 300-acre park.
Black bears are reportedly staging a comeback in the region.
