Warren Island is a small spruce-covered island sheltered by larger islands, including Islesboro at the mouth of the Penobscot River.
Lacking a public ferry connection, Warren Island State Park is designed for boaters, with docking/mooring facilities on the lee side. It can also be reached by kayak or by canoe launched from neighboring islands.
Warren Island has seven family campsites and three group campsites that can all be reserved. Nightly camping fees per site are $14 for Maine residents and $19 for non-residents during summer.
Short trails, totaling two miles, circle around the 67-acre island. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer and red squirrels. Anglers catch mackerel and striped bass. There is also a sand beach on the south side.
This island was once home to a sprawling mansion, built in 1899, that had 22 bedrooms and a dining room measuring 30 by 60 feet.
The island has fresh water and picnic sites. Islesboro has a boatyard and supplies.
