Owned and managed by the Maine's Bureau of Parks and Lands in partnership with the Damariscotta River Association Land Trust, Dodge Point offers a variety of recreation and education opportunities as it preserves habitat and forest.
Situated on the west bank of the Damariscotta River, this day-use area protects 521 acres straddling River Road in Newcastle. It has more than 6,000 feet of river frontage, including quiet sand and pebble beaches with splendid views.
There is also a large stand of red pine, a bog, beaver habitat and ravines, and a three-acre fresh water "ice pond."
Hikers and cross-country skiers enjoy a trail system more than five miles long that includes an old farm road, a shore trail and a ravine trail.
Visitors often come for contemplation, swimming, picnicking, and fishing.
Although facilities for these activities are not specifically provided, a recently-acquired parcel of land offers a deep-water dock used for fishing where anglers can catch striped bass, bluefish and mackerel.
