The Donnell Pond Unit, situated 12 miles east of Ellsworth off Route 182 or 183, preserves more than 14,000 acres of remote forested land with crystal clear lakes, secluded ponds, and mountains with panoramic views.

Located in Hancock County between Franklin and Cherryfield, here visitors can enjoy outdoor recreation in a scenic, remote setting.

Donnell Pond, administered by Maine's Bureau of Parks and Lands, encompasses miles of shoreline skirting Donnell Pond, Tunk, and Spring River lakes, plus most of Schoodic, Black, and Caribou mountains.

Boating, hiking, and swimming are popular activities.

Visitors also enjoy campsites accessible by foot or water on lake shores.

Outdoor Activities

Hike to the top of a crest and admire the view.

The region is quiet and serene in winter.

Hike along the lakefront.
