From 1883, when he was a year old, until he was stricken by polio in 1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt spent most summers on this rugged and beautiful island in Passamaquoddy Bay. He also made brief visits here during his presidency.
This 2,800-acre park in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, 1.5 miles from the Maine border, is administered by a joint U.S.-Canadian commission.
Visitors can tour the Roosevelt Cottage and see many original furnishings and personal mementos.
Nearby Friar's Head offers a picnic area, nature trails and splendid views of Passamaquoddy and Cobscook bays. The park also has several other picnic sites, 8.4 miles of park drives and 8.5 miles of walking trails through many interesting and picturesque locations.
The park is open from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day and can be reached by the FDR Memorial Bridge.
