This resort-style park offers swimming at the park beach or in the pool and fishing in the 43-acre man-made General Butler Lake.
Anglers catch bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill. Only nonmotorized boats are permitted on the lake, and rowboat, canoe and paddle boat rentals are available seasonally.
Blooms of larkspur, lady's slippers and jack-in-the-pulpit make walking on the two miles of trails especially pleasant in spring. Birdwatching groups frequent General Butler.
The park is named for Gen. William Orlando Butler, a hero of the War of 1812. The Butler-Turpin house, built by the general's nephew in 1859, offers a glimpse of 19th-century life.
Other facilities include a 52-room lodge, 24 cottages, a 111-site campground, miniature golf course, nine-hole golf course and playground.
